Reasons why you should be shopping local 📍
🍉 Supporting small, organic/local farms
🍉 More nutrients and less chemicals for preservation
🍉 Knowing exactly where your food comes from (talk to the farmer yourself!)
🍉 Reducing your carbon footprint
🍉 Eating the appropriate foods depending on the season
Most of the food in North America is imported, and about 50% of it is flown in from another country. The nutrient value and flavour changes, from the moment it is picked, to when it is on your plate.
If you can't find local and organic food, it is still very beneficial to eat local. The amount of nutrients in the food will be much higher and less chemicals will be used to preserve it via transportation.
I found a list of markets in Toronto by day through the BlogTO website. I just listed the ones that open until around 7pm, just because I know that most of us will be at work during the day. It's difficult to shop during the afternoon on a week day. Definitely check out the BlogTO website, as they post information like this very often!
